Are we in for an increase?

( Airfare )

Since United tried unsuccessfully to raise fares by $5 on January 19, it’s been very quiet on the fare front — perhaps too quiet.
As a rule, carriers like to post system-wide increases on Thursday nights. That gives the other carriers the weekend to decide whether or not they want to join in.
This is just a […]

US Airways Pulls its Bid for Delta

( Airline )

US Airways just put out a press release saying that its bid to merge with Delta Air Lines has been withdrawn.
Kudos to Delta management. Now all they face are the challenges of emerging from bankruptcy and getting to profitability in as short a time as possible. On another positive note for Delta, they secured $2.5 […]

( Airline )

The Wall Street Journal reported this morning that US Airways is offering to sweeten its bid for Delta by $1 billion bringing the total offer to about $10.8 billion. The deadline of February 1st remains for reaction by Delta’s creditors.
Initially I gave my vote to US Airways in winning this hostile bid for Delta. I […]

Travelocity’s New Brand CheapToTravel

I bumped into this by chance this morning. It appears that Travelocity is experimenting with a new “no-frills” site at www.cheaptotravel.com. I tested the air search and the results definitely look like Travelocity.
The domain name is registered to Travelocity.com LP and was last updated on January 5, 2007.
Based on the limited google search results, it […]

Varied Reaction to AirTran Incident

( Airline )

There was a good deal of discussion this week on the story of the three-year old.
This is an emotional topic as evidenced by all of the posts on this subject.
Reaction ranged greatly. One side saw this incident as another reason to call for a Passengers Bill of Rights. As Chris Elliott writes, the call […]
