Orbitz IPO - The Sequel

Posted on Tuesday 23 January 2007

The Beat is reporting that Travelport is considering a possible IPO for Orbitz including the other online assets of CheapTickets and eBookers.

Orbitz’s first IPO was back in the fall of 2003 when it was majority-held by the carriers.

Orbitz was purchased by Cendant in September 2003 for $1.25 billion.

In June, 2006 Orbitz became part of Blackstone when Cendant split off Travelport selling the entire travel vertical to Blackstone.

Travelocity will soon owned by Texas Pacific Group. While right now Sam Gilliand is saying there are no plans to spin off Travelocity, certainly the ownership structures of Travelocity and Orbitz would allow for an exploration of a merger of the two companies.
