No matches in 10 am update

Posted on Friday 23 March 2007

None of the network carriers matched Delta’s $5 increase in the 10 am update this morning. There is an update at 12:30 and 8 pm today as well as updates at 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Typically by Sunday night it is clear whether or not the increase will stick.

For clarification, I am using the term “system-wide” to define fare changes across the entire US and across all advance purchase buckets. It is fair to point out that Southwest Airlines led a fare increase on February 9. This increase was immediately matched by all of the network carriers. This increase doesn’t fall into my system-wide category since it was for a limited number of markets and was for fares with 7-day or less advance purchase. The absolute number of fares changed with the Southwest increase was small in comparison to the previous three system-wide increases led by United and Delta.

I will continue to put out updates as carriers match Delta’s increase.
