Delta filed a system-wide increase raising 39,172 fares by $5 one-way this evening. This increase is similar in size and scope to Delta’s fare increase on February 1.
This is the fourth attempt to raise prices system-wide across the US market this year. The previous three attempts were largely unsuccessful.
It is common for airlines to test […]
Canadian travel from the U.S. has a pretty good tax bite of about $60-$100. The taxes are based on whether or not the destination is within a 225 mile “buffer zone” of the U.S. border.
Within this “buffer zone” taxes are treated a bit differently (more like domestic taxes with a few international tack-ons) as opposed […]
The Associated Press is reporting that the DoT ruled today to accept Virgin America’s application to offer commercial flights in the US based on Virgin’s revised application submitted back in January.
Virgin’s original application was denied back in December on the grounds that the ownership structure was unclear and that Branson’s Virgin Group appeared to control […]
If a one day fare sale occurs in the forest and there is nobody there to hear it, does it matter?
A classic example is American Airlines at 1am today filed a 1 day fare sale from Miami to Rio, you can book it ONLY today and its $250 less than the next cheapest fare for […]
As noted in an early posting today Delta was taking a run at Continental out of it’s hub in Houston to Central America.

I am happy to welcome a second writer to the Air Travel Channel blog. Rick Seaney, FareCompare’s CEO, posted two pieces today on regional airfare skirmishes.
Thanks to Mark Ashley at Upgrade: Travel Better for reviewing the National Airfare Index.
As Mark mentioned, this is still a work in progress, but we are making headway.
Hopefully the star rating adds some value as well. The rationale for adding in a four star rating is to account for the seasonality of airfare. When you […]
Delta just slashed airline tickets from Houston to Central America by $75 to several cities in Central America (taking dead aim at Continental)
Costa Rica
Managua
Guatemala
Honduras
San Salvador
Belize
Continental has several non-stops to Central America from Houston and Delta must route travelers through Atlanta.
(Side by Side Comparison of Houston to Costa Rica)
Delta also slashed prices from Lima Peru, […]
This morning at 10:00am United took a swipe at Delta Hubs by slashing prices to Toronto (YYZ). United filed a $192 fare which undercuts the lowest price from the Delta Hubs by $80-$212 (Salt Lake [SLC], Atlanta [ATL] and Cincinnati [CVG]). Both airlines offer several non-stop flights on smaller regional jets from Atlanta.
Cheap Airline […]
On Saturday Air Canada rolled back its airfare increase of $4 one-way. On Friday US Airways rolled back its increase in overlap markets and this evening both Air Canada and United followed.
