In this afternoon’s update Continental matched Air Canada’s increase in overlap markets.
AirTran’s 48 hour fare sale ended last night and the index bumped up 7 points this morning.
We’re back now at one star which means that right now fares are slightly above the values in 2005 and 2006.
Air Canada’s increase may also have affected the index, but my guess is that the AirTran sale has greater […]
In this morning’s feed, Delta matched Air Canada’s $4 (one-way) increase in overlap markets.
Air Canada raised fares across its network last night by $4 one-way. The increase affects 153 of the top 1,200 markets in the US and Canada.
United matched Air Canada in overlap markets.
The increase applies to 0, 3, 7, 10, and 21 day advance purchase fares.
This is the fifth attempt by Air Canada to raise fares […]
The index dropped a full 11 points based on AirTran’s 48 hour sale that was released Monday night in the 8 pm feed. Some carriers matched AirTran’s sale. So far Delta has held back.
Given the limited response to AirTran’s fare sale it is possible that carriers are feeling good about load factors and don’t feel […]
In this evening’s update, AirTran filed a bunch of 14-day sale fares. Most of the fares are for Atlanta. Tickets must be purchased by April 18th and return travel must commence by May 31st. The fares below are all off-peak (travel on Tuesday and Wednesday). AirTran also filed peak fare sales as part of the […]
The index resumed its upward climb, increasing by 12 points or 2.4%. The increase is the result of the expiration of a large number of lower cost 14 day fares. This is the second bump in recent days as a result of expiring 14-day fares.
The index is now at one star and today’s index of […]
The index fell back by one point today to 438 and is now at two stars. This means that the current value is close to the values for 2005 and 2006. The chart below showing the year over year index value helps to show where the current value is in relation to the past two […]
The index shot up yesterday in great part due to the expiration of low 14-day fares. So while there was no official fare increase, overall prices moved up as lower season fares expired.
Nevertheless the index is still significantly lower than at this time in 2006 or 2005. As we move into the high travel […]
Northwest has filed 14 million new fares in North America since Nov 2004. In contrast, American has filed just 5 million new fares for the same period. The top three carriers are Northwest, Delta, and United. It would appear that there is a correlation between bankruptcy and number of fare changes.
