The airfare index has been stable for several days running.
I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that Delta or United will try to raise fares in the 8 pm update tonight. Thursday’s is the favorite night for fare hikes, and it’s been a while since any of the network carriers have tried an increase. The last system-wide increase was on Mar 22 when Delta tried to raise fares by $5 one-way.
We’re also heading into the high travel season and the current index value of 434 is below the values for 2005 and 2006 (468 and 471 respectively).
