Northwest Joins $5 Increase

Posted on Saturday 12 May 2007

This evening Northwest Airlines joined the $5 one-way increase started
by Delta on May 10th.

Northwest’s increase affects 632 of the top 1,200 markets. In the last
round started by Continental on May 3rd, Northwest matched the increase
in only 20% of the top markets. For this round, Northwest is matching
in 50% of the top markets. By matching in more markets, Northwest
provides additional support for this increase to stick.

Southwest fares are more difficult to track in detail. Based on spot
checks this evening, it does not appear that Southwest has matched
Delta’s $5 increase.

Carriers will often start partial roll backs of  fare increases on
Sunday night.

The next update is Sunday at 5 pm.
