This afternoon Midwest airlines filed a $1 one-way increase across it’s
network. This comes on the heels of the collapse of the system-wide $5
increase last night.
Midwest’s increase applies to walk-up, 3-day, 7-day, 14-day and 21-day
fares and affects 275 of the top 1,200 markets or 23%.
Given the lack of success of the previous increases, it will be
interesting […]
In tonight’s update American, Continental, Delta, and United all rolled
back the $5 increase started by Continental on May 3rd.
This is the fifth attempt to increase fares this year. Each increase
has met with a similar fate. The lack of participation by low cost
carriers, and in particular Southwest Airlines, has made it difficult
to get increases to stick.
Today […]
In this afternoon’s update, Continental pulled back its increase in 643
of the top markets and Northwest rolled back all of its increases.
Both US Airways and Northwest have now rolled back their increases
completely. It is likely we will see the other carriers roll back in
the 8 pm update this evening.
The national index is currently at 346, just 2 points above where it was before the Continental increase on Thursday.
The latest round of increases really didn’t have a major effect on the index value. Both the national and the business fare indexes show only a small uptick based on the fare initiative.
I attribute this to […]
In this morning’s update US Airways rolled back all of the $5 (one-way) increases it had filed Friday night. US Airway’s decision puts into question whether this round of increases will stick. Based on previous fare initiatives of this scale, once a carrier pulls back completely, it is typical for the other carriers follow.
Delta and […]
In tonight’s update both American and United partially rolled back the
$5 one-way increase, primarily in Southwest overlap markets.
American rolled back fares in 409 of the top 1,200 markets. On Friday
American had increased fares in 777 of the top markets. After this
evenings roll back, American’s increase remains in effect for 368 or
30% of the top 1,200 […]
Alaska Airlines also matched the $5 increase in last night’s feed with
increases in 108 of the top 1,200 markets.
United Airlines and US Airways both matched the $5 one-way increase in
last night’s update.
United’s increase affects 637 of the top 1,200 markets.
US Airways affects 804 of the top 1,200 markets.
At this point all of the network carriers have matched the Continental
increase. Northwest matched in 20% of the top markets while the other
carriers matched in 50% […]
In this afternoon’s update, both Delta and Northwest matched
Continental’s $5 one-way increase.
Delta’s $5 increase affects 812 of the top 1,200 markets in the US and
Canada.
Northwest’s $5 increase affects 245 of the top 1,200 markets in the US
and Canada.
Based on past initiatives, it is likely that United and US Airways will
file their matching fares this […]
