With three system-wide increases in a 11 day period, it is difficult to
distinguish between each event.
Below
is a chart that shows by carrier the number of $5 increases still
in effect for the top 1,200 markets in the US & CA.
At least for now the last $5 increase filed by Continental on May 14 as
a fuel surcharge […]
In this morning’s update both Delta and United matched Continental’s $5
one-way fuel surcharge. American matched in this afternoon’s update.
This increase was started by Continental on Monday night.
Fuel surcharge increases are not as common as general fare hikes.
Typically it takes the other carriers longer to respond since their
systems are not designed to track fuel surcharges […]
Based on some questions this morning, I have put together an excel
spreadsheet with the cities affected by Continental’s increase on May

night.
You can download
the file here.
The spreadsheet shows walk-up fares that have increased by $10
round-trip for the top 1,200 markets. There is a great deal of […]

In effect this evening we have back-to-back fare increases. Delta’s increase from May 10th continues to be reduced as carriers roll back their increases […]
In this afternoon’s update, Continental rolled back its $5 increase in 604 top markets. United and Delta also rolled back the increase in some top markets.

For now, Continental has not rolled back any of its increases.
Below is a chart with the current status of the increase. US Airways and American are now at 20%, meaning […]
This evening American, Delta, Northwest and United all rolled back the
$5 increase in Southwest overlap markets. Below is a chart showing the
original increase and tonight’s partial roll back.
We can expect US Airways and Continental to follow with their own roll
backs tomorrow.
While the carriers have rolled back in Southwest markets, the increase
is still in effect for […]
This evening Northwest Airlines joined the $5 one-way increase started
by Delta on May 10th.
Northwest’s increase affects 632 of the top 1,200 markets. In the last
round started by Continental on May 3rd, Northwest matched the increase
in only 20% of the top markets. For this round, Northwest is matching
in 50% of the top markets. By matching in […]
In this evening’s update United and US Airways joined Delta’s $5
increase.
United’s increase affects 748 of the top 1,200 markets.
US Airways increase affects 773 of the top 1,200 markets.
Northwest has not yet joined in on this round of increases.
The next update is tomorrow evening at 5 pm.
In the afternoon update, Continental and Midwest both joined Delta’s $5

Continental’s increase affects 716 of the top 1,200 markets
